"Writing anything is hard, but writing and producing true crime projects is even harder," says writer, producer and story consultant Dawn Brett-Hauschild. "When we're talking about real people and real tragedies, good storytellers must mindfully balance legal, ethical and creative considerations so as to enlighten -- not exploit."

A classically trained journalist with an honours degree from Carleton University's School of Journalism, Dawn Brett-Hauschild has employed best practices in general news, crime and investigative reporting since beginning her career as a print and television reporter for major news organizations, such as Reuters, BCTV News and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, among others. 

Most recently, Dawn worked with Oscar-nominated producer Sigrid Dyekjaer and director Mikala Krogh of Danish Documentary on a limited series about one of Scandinavia’s biggest murder mysteries, the Scandinavian Star ferry disaster.  This true crime series was nominated for the prestigious Cavling Prize in 2020.
